The Bohemian Cherry is now OPEN!

I have been working furiously to get all the photos and listings done in my etsy shop. I finally decided to do it after all the feed back I was receiving through social media. I put together a small collection of items (there are more, but it's a process).

This has to be on of my favorites. It was a favorite maxi dress at some point. It was sheer and flowing. But I slowly I wore down the straps. I didnt want to part with it so I stashed it away with my sewing for a later date. Now it has been reborn in to something that can be worn in all seasons!

My collection reflects a Boho influence, and lots of up cycling! The hardest part is putting it for sale, because I love it all! Even the skirts I hoarded... and they were not even my size!

I did that with many summer dresses and maxi's. I gave life to some boring light weight skirts. Now with denim and add a pair of color tights you have a new fall skirt!

Add some tights, and boots now a all season skirt!

This denim number is the ultimate winter skirt. At ankle length its long enough and just short enough to show off some awesome boots. for this I used two pair of denim and added denim to the front and the back to create a very full skirt. These are really easy wearing.

If you saw in the pictures there are a couple of necklaces. These are just the cutest things.
To compliment the Boho style I went with a mixed media look. I also recycle lots of old fabric.

These are just some favorites. I still have a lot of work to do.
Please come by The Bohemian Cherry soon!

Maxi Dress into A Boho Skirt

This can be an easy or as difficult you would like it to be. For my practice one I used a simple cotton maxi dress. I wanted practice before I attempted cutting my favorite Boho dress (that I have had since 2005). The elastic around the chest is long gone. But I knew it was destine to be amazing, to be reincarnated!

If you did the previous Denim Maxi skirt project you had a pair of strange shorts left over. This is the prettiest way to use them!

Cut the denim just under the back pockets. I used a ruler and some chalk for the first one.

You are going to want to cut off the top portion of  the maxi dress. This is when you will want to cut it to the length that fits you! (Psst.. if you know me by now, save that bandeau top!)

The cotton maxi was just a plain tube of fabric. So when I pinned it I flipped it inside out so I could pin some pleats in a more even manner. I attach the skirt under the denim and left the raw edge to fray.

Then sew! It was that easy.

So here is the one I was waiting for my Boho dress. This dress is chiffon with a slip underneath and a little more difficult to handle. I cut of the top and was able to leave everything connected and pleated. I just had to sew. The only thing I did was adjust the length to fit, and cropped the under skirt so it was shorter and now more sheer.

One hour Antro Hack, that turned into something better.

This little ditty is about trying something new. Challenging my craft skills, and getting inspired. About taking that moment and giving it a good try!
I saw this pin from Anthro. I was like Ugh!  It's just not that cute, too pink ,so overpriced, so mass produced. Not for me my friends. So I was all like, "I can make that." (I know, how random I didn't even like it!) Well maybe, I have never done a jewelry challenge.
I didn't have everything on hand. And I was not going to buy things for an Anthro 'Inspired' moment. So I dug deep into my pile of crap.( I keep lots of jewelry for their recycling purposes). And I started to pull stuff apart.
Heres what I started with. Didn't have the same, but that doesn't matter, it's an 'inspired' moment.
I ended up going more BoHo with this. Something I would wear!  I was digging around looking for some sort of chord. I found some scraps from my Mens Tee refashion. So cut the strips and braided them.
There's nothing like an Anthro Hack challenge and beer to create something that you like.
Go through your old jewelry, break it up. You do not have to be a jewelry maker.
Just MaCgyver your way through.
OK, now I am warmed up, I can't wait to try this again.
I have ideas of things to add to this, and I like the t-shirt element.
Do you do mini challenges to get good at something?
Or, are you just a Rock Star already?

Random acts of decor, a kitchen decor update using your on hand items and cheap key items.

I have been doing a lot of overhauling in my home and life. It's been amazing, and exhausting at the same time. I am on my second laptop this week (didn't realize the first one didn't have a CD drive). Just as I was getting used to the new phone, I had to throw in a laptop and windows 8. Wow, 8, bad bad bad... maybe I am just old fashioned. I like Android, and my Windows NOT trying to be Mac. I should know I have had a MacBook Air now since it appeared on the market... yeah, the first one. I never liked the thing really, it was cute when I could fit it in my purse and take it to the local coffee house on Capitol Hill. But that was a long time ago my friends.

It hasn't just been the technology aspect of it all it's the: "I am also going to overhaul the entire house because I have a wild hair up my ass" thing. Did it all on line, never went to a store! The big stuff is coming next week... YIKES! I started in our bedroom, then the family room, the kitchen and ended in the living room.  It is not complete as I type. There a pillows in bags, boxes waiting to go out to recycling, and things are just not complete. That gives my anxiety like nothing else! But I am happy to report that My kitchen looks awesome. Nothing major in there, just mainly a decor overhaul. It's like night and day in there. Before all this started I took pictures, and I can't remember what camera ( I have 3), or what computer I may have downloaded on (we have 5 total). I told you, it has been busy town around here since I started on my son's first birthday.

I didn't want to blow the budget picking up 'stuff'. So I decided to buy a few key pieces to tie my theme or look together and then just use items already on hand. I wanted an eclectic, vintage look, using red and yellow's. So here's how it all went.

I picked up a few awesome sale items from Hobby Lobby that really got me going. The sale item here is the vintage fan. Everything else was already in the kitchen, but I just regrouped them for a fresh look.
I like rummaging around the house and finding new homes for things.
This fun colorful 'thing' was the other sale item. It was $10. Then I gathered up my skulls and keys. Kind of a skeleton key thing going on here. I have a collection of vintage keys that usually hang out in a bowl. But the placement of this is much higher. So putting them in a mason jar was perfect here.
I just love the bold colors!
I swear everytime I try to get things done... its just the wrong time of day. Hence the blinding light coming into the kitchen while I was trying to take photos. I also got the Coca-Cola sign for under $10. Again it was all about the color. I also moved over my tins to compliment that beautiful green The tin was a sale item from many years ago from Anthropologie (when I worked there).
I created a little Zen garden for myself. Anything to make dishes a little bit more enjoyable. I remember  how it all started now. See that little bottle of Palmolive Soft Touch? As an Influenster member I received this product to test out. When I was creating a board for it I got distracted by kitchen decor. I got the 'bug'. But to be honest I like my Soft Touch dishwashing liquid. I am currently using the Soft Touch with vitamin E. My hands... NOT destroyed. I am happy.

So what's in your Zen garden? This is where I have my herbs, and onions. That way I can just snip what I need and it all can grow back. I used an old vintage look can for a plant pot (cherry of course). I used and old cracked mug from Anthropologie for my scrubbers. Just fill with pebbles or beans to keep them from tipping out.
Those curtains are very old from Cost Plus, they used to be long... not any more!

My favorite projects were the vintage stars and the EAT sign. Those I did for a whole ZERO baby!
Stay tuned for that, I will show you how to get that distressed look.

Been gone too long.

Between my sons first birthday, New phones, and laptops I have been busy. My son's birthday took a week of preparation,  and now I am working on redecorating the house. Inspired by my new obsession: Bohemian. I have boxes everywhere,  project s fill the table and I can't get to my pictures because we are having transfer issues.  So I am blogging from my New phone because I can take new pictures of my new craft projects.
I am very excited to share!
